If you are missing one, several or all of your natural teeth, Dr. Chaudhry and his team offer several restoration options so you can once again smile with confidence. Read on as Dr. Chaudhry explains the restoration options he offers at his Bethlehem, PA, practice.
At Lehigh Valley Oral Surgery and Implant Center, we specialize in using dental implants as a state-of-the-art tooth restoration option. Implants are often the preferred restoration choice by our patients because they look and function like natural teeth. With implants you can eat all of your favorite foods without worrying about the restoration becoming loose, and you can easily clean your implant by brushing and flossing as you would with your natural teeth. Unlike other restoration options, implants are placed directly in your jawbone which preserves bone density and the health of your surrounding teeth.
Not all patients are good candidates for dental implants. In some cases, additional procedures may be necessary to prepare the jawbone and gums for the implants. During a consultation, we can determine if dental implants or another restoration option is right for you.
Until dental implants became available, a dental bridge was the main option for replacing a missing tooth and is still the best option for patients who are not suitable candidates for implants. Although the placement of a bridge does not require a surgical procedure, as is necessary for an implant, it does involve placing crowns on the teeth surrounding the missing tooth. These crowns hold the replacement tooth in place and permanently alter the surrounding teeth. Typically, bridges need to be replaced every seven to ten years.
Dentures used to be the only option available for replacing a full set of missing teeth. They were a quick and easy option for restoring the appearance and function of a smile. However, since they sit on top of the gums they can be uncomfortable to wear and often slip when speaking and chewing. Thanks to advances in implant dentistry, now you can have a full denture secured to your jaw with implants for a more stable fit.
