Hello! We here at Lehigh Valley Oral Surgery & Implant Center warmly welcome you to our brand new dental implants blog. For some time now, we’ve worked to find the best possible way of getting the word out about dental implants to our Bethlehem, PA patients. After much experimentation, we finally decided on this blog, which allows us to speak directly to our many current and potential patients. To start things off, we want to speak to you about the various different treatments that are available to patients who choose to restore their missing teeth with dental implants. To accomplish this, we got oral and maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Ahmad Chaudhry to blog today about the main categories of treatment we offer to our Bethlehem patients.
There are three main types of treatment our office can use to restore our patients missing teeth using dental implants. These are:
The most common type of dental implant restoration performed at our practice is for those who are missing a single tooth. For these patients, we will place a single implant fixture into the empty spot left behind by your missing tooth. Once the fixture is in place, a process called osseointegration will work to fuse it to your jawbone, making it a natural piece of your oral anatomy. Once this process is finished, an abutment and porcelain crown will be attached to the fixture, completing the restoration.
The next most common type of restoration we perform at our practice is for patients who are missing more than one tooth. For these patients, we often restore each and every missing tooth with their own implant fixture and porcelain crown. However, some patients come to us with missing teeth that all border each other. For these patients, we can use an implant supported dental bridge. For this procedure, at least two implants are placed. Once in place and healed, an abutment will be attached to each fixture and the dental bridge connected, completing the restoration.
The final type of restoration we commonly perform at our practice is for patients who are suffering from a full arch of missing teeth. While we can potentially restore each missing tooth in the arch with its own implant fixture and porcelain crown, the most effective treatment for these patients tends to be an implant supported overdenture. For this procedure, four to six implant fixtures are placed along your arch. Once healed and properly osseointegrated, an abutment will be attached to each implant fixture and the overdenture connected at each point, completing the restoration.
As you can see, we can provide a treatment that fits your needs using dental implants, regardless of how many teeth you may be missing. With dental implants, you can rest assured that your treatment is custom made to fit the structure and appearance of your mouth.
